About Me

Patricia Oys has an extensive academic background in physical therapy. She began her career in physical therapy with a Bachelor of Science degree in the mid 1980’s. Due to her desire for more education, she obtained a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy with an emphasis in orthopedics in 1990 and a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy in 2010. Due to her strong interest in helping the aging adult, she obtained additional education through the geriatric division of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) with a certification as an Expert in Exercise in the Aging Adult in 2013.

Her personal history with Pilates started back in 2002 after injuring her low back. After using several different types of interventions both traditional and non-traditional, she tried Pilates with a physical therapist and noted an improvement in reducing her back pain. She then began taking both core stabilization and physical therapy courses in Pilates. Patricia’s comprehensive training began with the PhysicalMind Institute with both mat (2006) and then equipment (2008). Patricia opened her small private Pilates business, Therapeutic Pilates, in 2008 with an emphasis on serving clients with musculoskeletal impairments and orthopedic rehabilitation. Due to her desire to learn more about the rehabilitative approach in Pilates, she pursued additional Pilates training through Polestar Pilates. Following a nine-month apprenticeship, and undergoing written and practical examinations, she was granted a certificate of training as a practitioner of Pilates for rehabilitation from Polestar Pilates in September 2013. She also completed the only national Pilates certification from Pilates Method Alliance.
